Louis C.K. can’t stop the pirates

To all those jerks who are railing against SOPA because it’s not the utopian ideal for protecting artists’ intellectual property: this is what’s happening now, in the absence of any protection. Even when a guy releases his work DRM-free in good faith for the benefit of his fans, for the measly sum of $5, and with a plea to buy instead of steal, people still steal it. And they conjure some bullshit excuse that the internet is helping artists, that by extension the people sitting at home doing nothing but clicking “download” and commenting and reblogging are somehow contributing to the world. So for everyone who is “speaking out” against SOPA: fuck you. Fuck you you selfish, content-gluttonous, disingenuous scum. Fuck you Tumblr for furthering your own disingenuous campaign to misinform and confuse under the false pretenses that you’re doing anything but protecting your business model of enabling users to misappropriate terrabytes of content on a daily basis. Fuck you everyone who is misusing the word “censorship” to mask the trafficking of stolen goods. Fuck you and go and make something instead of complaining that people who do are getting some modicum of protection.

SOPA may not be perfect, but neither is any prosecutorial system of justice. Imperfect is better than nothing.
